SENIOR RESOURCES: The 19th District has issued a resource list with information about various services available to seniors (and others) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here for further information.

FACEMASKS: The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued guidance on the use of facemasks when out in public. Click here for a copy of the guidance. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued guidance on the proper use of cloth face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Click here for further information.

Starting Saturday, April 25, Alderman Tunney's office will join Mayor Lightfoot's office and other aldermanic offices across the city to collect donations of handmade masks. A staff member will be in the office solely to collect these donations each Saturday and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please adhere to these guidelines if you plan to donate handmade cloth masks/face coverings:

  • Completed masks should be placed in a clear, clean and sealable bag

  • When dropping off masks, you should be wearing a mask or face covering and gloves

  • Donated masks should be made of machine washable fabric

  • Follow the CDC guidelines on how to wear and sew masks

SPECIAL SHOPPING HOURS: Many retailers have set aside hours for seniors and other vulnerable populations. The Illinois Retail Merchants' Association maintains an updated list of such hours on their website here. Some of the stores permit first responders to shop during this time. (Please be aware that some stores are not actively policing this policy so you may encounter other shoppers.)

Some of our local store hours include (updated 4/17/2020):

Mariano’s – 6:00am-8:00am daily

Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market – 6:00am-8:00am on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays

Trader Joe's - 8:00am-9:00am daily

Whole Foods - one hour before regular store hours (varies by store in our area, check local store website for details, opening at either 7am or 8am depending on the store)

Target -  the first hour of shopping each Tuesday & Wednesday, check local store hours for specific times

Walgreens – 8:00am-9:00am on Tuesdays

Walmart - 6:00am-7:00am on Tuesdays
